GPI - General information

In the menu below you will find frequently asked questions and answers on the purchase of login code(s) and the operation of the GPI. If your question is not listed, please contact us.

GPI is the Dutch abbreviation for Generic Gate Instruction. The GPI is required to access a construction site of the participating construction and installation companies within the GCVB.

The GPI has been mandatory since 1 April 2019 at the construction sites of the participating construction and installation companies within the GCVB. From that date, all (main) contractors, subcontractors, (temporary) employees of subcontractors and suppliers who carry out work on the construction site (after passing the safety instruction board) must have their GPI for all projects in order to gain access to the construction site. At the gate it is checked whether an employee is in possession of the GPI certificate.

If you only come to visit (always under supervision), you do not have to follow the GPI. It is advisable, in addition to following the instructions of your supervisor, to then preview the 'Safety instruction for visitor construction site' on the safety risks and safety rules on the construction site. You can find this instruction on the homepage of this website (click on ‘Home’ and ‘I am a visitor’). After viewing you can download and sign a form stating that you have seen the Security instruction for visitors.

The GPI is mandatory as soon as you enter the construction site or a fenced area (traffic barrier) (this is usually indicated by a sign with safety instructions). The GPI is not required for delivery outside the gate of the construction site.

Yes. Everyone who performs work (short- or long-term) on a construction site must have a GPI certificate. Delivering goods, loading and unloading are also (risky) activities. In addition, many incidents such as collision occur. Everyone must contribute to improving the safety culture. The GPI certificate is valid at any GPI construction site.

Yes. Everyone who performs work (short- or long-term) on a construction site must have a GPI certificate. Preparing work, consulting, advising and coordinating are also activities. Everyone must contribute to improving the safety culture. You may also have an example function in this.

As an employee of an electricity transmission system operator you have an exemption for the GPI. Then you follow the General Site Satefety Instruction of Netbeheer Nederland (or you have followed it). As an employee of a contractor who works for an electricity transmission system operator, you do not have this exemption and you must follow the GPI if requested.

The GPI is complementary to VCA. The GPI is a gate instruction to access a construction site of the participating construction and installation companies within the GCVB, SCC is a comprehensive safety instruction. There is overlap between the subjects, but the elaboration is different. The aim of the GPI is to uniformly improve awareness around safety risks on the construction site and safe working practices.

Everyone who performs work on a construction site must have a GPI certificate. Also borrowed and loaned employees. Your employer pays for your GPI certificate. Your employer is the person with whom you are on the payroll. For temporary workers this therefore is not necessarily the organization for whom you actually perform work. The main contractor is responsible for safety and access at the construction site. The main contractor will contractually require e.g. employment agencies to request a GPI certificate from the employees.
